As its name suggests, Japan’s Golden Route visits a range of destinations from the exciting, bustling capital city of Tokyo, the astoundingly scenic historical capital of Kyoto and Japan’s most recognised city, Hiroshima. Tokyo, host to the 2020 Olympic Games, offers the most modern shopping experience while still being home to historic, elegant buildings and temples. Mount Fuji is another impressive, breathtaking location with a single snowy peak. On a clear day, the views are simply incredible. The cities of Kyoto, famous for its serene, charming landscape, and Hiroshima, where you can learn about its rich history in the Peace Museum, provide much interest and enjoyment. Finally, the island of Miyajima will offer you a wonderful insight into Japan’s nature.

Day 1 Fly to Tokyo
Take a scheduled flight from your regional airport to Tokyo.

Day 2 Arrive Tokyo
An English-speaking assistant will meet you at the customs exit at Narita or Haneda and assist you to board an airport bus that will take you to your accommodation.

Day 3 Tokyo Morning tour (B)
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel to join Tokyo Edo Morning Tour. 08:00: The tour departs the Keio Plaza Hotel to begin sightseeing around Tokyo. Drive past the National Diet Building, the centre of the Japanese Government and the Imperial Palace, the residence of the Emperor of Japan. Visit the Tsukiji Outer Fish Market, which contains a mixture of wholesale and retail stalls and is the largest market of its kind in the world. Continue to Tokyo Skytree Town (access to Tembo Deck is not included and is subject to additional charge payable locally). Visit Sensoji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street. The tour will finish at approximately 13:15 in Asakusa.  The guide can advise about returning to the hotel by public transport. Afternoon is free at leisure.

Day 4 Full day excursion to Nikko (BL)
Today you will join the Nikko World Heritage Tour.  Visit Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the final resting place of the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan for over 250 years and a part of Nikko UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy a Japanese Style lunch. Visit Lake Chuzenji, a scenic lake created over 20,000 years ago and located in Nikko National Park.  See the mesmerizing 97m high Kegon Falls which were originally formed when the river was re-routed by lava flows. Return to Shinjuku, where the tour ends.

Day 5 Tokyo to Mt. Fuji and Hakone (BL)
This morning you will leave Tokyo for Mt. Fuji and Hakone. Your main suitcase will be transferred directly from Tokyo to Kyoto. You will need to keep an overnight luggage for your night in Hakone. After breakfast, you will be picked up from your accommodation. Depart Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal and head to Mt. Fuji 5th Station by coach. Start the ascent up Mt. Fuji via the Fuji Subaru Line. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 ft) above sea level for breathtaking views from above the clouds. Enjoy a Japanese-style lunch. After lunch enjoy a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi, 30km southeast of Mt. Fuji. The crater lake was born from a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago and provides postcard views of Mt. Fuji from various angles. Travel onwards to Mt. Komagatake Ropeway. Spend a total of 50 minutes including a 7-minute cableway ride up to the peak from Hakone-en. Discover the spiritual Hakone Shrine Mototsumiya (original shrine). Arrive at your accommodation in Hakone.

Day 6 Hakone to Kyoto (B)
Today transfer to Odawara Station. Depart from Odawara Station to Kyoto Station by bullet train. (Travel time appox 123 minutes). Upon arrival at Kyoto Station you will be met by an English speaking assistant who will assist you in getting to your accommodation. In the afternoon you will join the Nara afternoon tour. Spend time at Nara Park and Todai-ji Temple (Great Buddha). This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the symbol of the Nara Period and one of the world’s largest wooden structures. Visit Kasuga Taisha Shrine, designated as a World Heritage Site. Visit Nara Nagomikan. Drop-off Services to hotels in Kyoto are available.

Day 7 Day tour of Kyoto (BL)
Today you will join a day tour of Kyoto by coach, starting from Kyoto Station. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nijo Castle, completed in 1626, built to provide lodging for Tokugawa Shogun. Visit Kinkaku-ji Temple, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wooden architecture is covered in thin layers of pure gold and is surrounded by a beautiful pond. Spend time at Kyoto Imperial Palace, which used to be the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family until 1868, (or Kitano Tenmangu Shrine when the Imperial Palace is closed). Enjoy a Japanese/Western style buffet lunch. Visit the Heian Jingu Shrine, a Shinto shrine dating back to 1895. Sanjusangen-do Temple is the world’s longest wooden structure, housing 1,001 life-size statues of Buddhist Kannon deities dating back to the 13th century. Enjoy the superb view of Kyoto from the World Heritage Site of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Drop-off services to hotels are available.

Day 8 Day Tour to Hiroshima (B)
Today you will join a full day tour to Hiroshima. From Kyoto Station, travel to Hiroshima Station by bullet train. Upon arrival walk to the meeting point at Granvia Hiroshima where you will be transferred to Miyajimaguchi. From Miyajimaguchi go to Miyajima Port, here you will take the ferry to Miyajima (10mins). Visit Itsukushima Shrine, a World Heritage Site. Established in the 6th century it is famous for its beautiful Shinden-zukuri style structure. See the vermillion shrine and enjoy the picturesque beauty. Lunch at own expense. From Miyajima Port go to Miyajimaguchi by ferry. Transfer to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum by coach. This large-scale park was established in 1949 after the Pacific War ended, and it’s a symbol of peace. The museum within the park is an important cultural property of Japan. From Hiroshima Station, take a bullet train to Kyoto Station. Arrive at Kyoto Station. Drop off services to designated hotels in Kyoto available.

Day 9 Kyoto (B)
Day free at leisure to explore Kyoto.

Day 10 Fly to UK (B)
Day at leisure until your transfer by airport shuttle bus to Kansai International airport, Osaka.

Located near traditional houses and temples, with the intersection of Shijko street and Karasuma street this hotel offers easy access to transport links.
