Kagoshima

Nicknamed the “Naples of the Eastern world” for its bay location, Kagoshima is a seaside city on Japan’s Kyushu Island. Offering a mild climate, Kagoshima has exceptional scenery and rich nature. The backdrop to the city, and a popular day tour, is Sakurajima ((4 km from central Kagoshima City), one of Japan’s most active volcanoes and the symbol of Kagoshima. The volcano smokes constantly, and minor eruptions often take place multiple times per day. During your time on the island spend time at Sakurajima Marine Park where visitors can observe the seabed, coral reefs, and marine life. Sights in Kagoshima include the city’s aquarium, Shoko Shuseikan, Museum of the Meiji Restoration and Karasujima Observation Point. A popular dish of the area is Kuro Satsuma-dori (black Satsuma chicken) cooked over open charcoal.
