2018 – 19

Day 1  Fly to Tokyo
Take a scheduled flight from your regional airport to Tokyo.

Day 2 Arrive Tokyo
On arrival at Tokyo’s Narita or Haneda airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel by private coach.

Day 3  Tokyo tour (B)
Following breakfast you will be met at your hotel to embark on a day tour of this bustling and energetic city. You will take in the popular landmarks including Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise street, one of the oldest shopping streets in Japan.  In Asakusa, enjoy the view from the observation deck at Tokyo Tower, the communications and observation tower measures 332.9 metres and is the  second tallest structure in Japan. Stroll in Ginza district, the luxury shopping and entertainment district of Tokyo and visit Meiji-Jingu Shrine. Return to your hotel.

Day 4  Mt. Fuji and Hakone – Atami (BD)
Today you will have a full day tour to Mt. Fuji and Hakone. The tour includes spending time at Mt. Fuji 5th station (if weather permits), visiting the historical Hakone Sekisho and learn about the past at this old imperial checkpoint. Enjoy a leisurely cruise on Lake Ashinoko and take the Komogatake Ropeway which is a Japanese aerial lift that offers spectacular views of the surrounding areas. Finally you will be transferred to your hotel in Atami. Dinner will be served at your hotel tonight.

Day 5  Atami – Kyoto (B)
After breakfast transfer to the train station with your tour guide to take the bullet train to Kyoto. Upon arrival you will transfer to Nara and visit Todaji Temple (Great Buddha), the picturesque Nara Park, home to hundreds of freely roaming deer and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Finally you will transfer to the cultural city of Kyoto and to your accommodation.

Day 6  Kyoto (B)
Today you will have a day tour of Kyoto. Places of interest that you will visit include Nijo Castle which was built in 1603. Spend time at Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), Ryoanji Temple, the site of Japan’s most famous rock garden, and the stunning Kiyomizudera Temple. Built in 780 in the hills east of Kyoto, this celebrated temple offers wonderful views of Kyoto.  Visit a sake brewery and enjoy a brewery tour and sake tasting.  After the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 7  Kyoto – Hiroshima – Miyajima – Hiroshima (B)
Morning transfer to the station to take the bullet train to Hiroshima. Upon arrival at Hiroshima station, you will take the 10 minute ferry to the island of Miyajima.  On arrival you will walk to Itsukushima Shrine, best known for its “floating torii gate”, which is one of the most photographed locations in Japan. Spend time walking to the other sites located on the scenic island. Finally you will take the ferry to Miyajimaguchi and transfer to your accommodation.

Day 8 Hiroshima – Osaka (B)
This morning you will take a coach tour of Hiroshima City. Places of interest that you will visit include Peace Park, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome.  Continue by coach to the charming and historic city of Kurashiki and enjoy a tour of the old quarter. Continue to Osaka and transfer to your accommodation.

Day 9  Fly to Beijing (BD)
Transfer to Osaka Airport for your flight to Beijing. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay. You will have a chance to relax before your guide will escort you for dinner.

Day 10  Beijing City tour (BLD)
In the morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven – this was the place where the Ming and Qing emperors worshipped the god of heaven and prayed for good harvests for the year, where you can observe the tradition of practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard. This will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, the biggest square in the world. Continue to the Forbidden City which served as the grand imperial palace for centuries.  Your final stop of the day will be at the Hutongs. Here, you can have a personal insight into the everyday life of traditional Beijing citizens.

Day 11 Great Wall  (BLD)
Today visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a post along the wall offering breathtaking views in a less crowded atmosphere. Mutianyu was built in the mid-6th century and its rich history can be observed in its unique construction. This will be followed by an opportunity for photographs at the Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube, which hosted the memorable 2008 Olympics and 2015 World Championships. In the evening, enjoy a sumptuous Peking Duck Dinner, a traditional delicacy and a culinary must.

Day 12 Bullet train to Xian (BL)
In the morning visit the Summer Palace, which includes a grand collection of lakes, gardens, palaces and scenic views. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake. You will then catch a bullet train to Xian (approx. 5 hours 30 minutes).

Day 13  Terracotta Warriors (BLD)
In the morning visit the Terracotta Warriors, a stunning collection of ten thousand life sized statues of the Chinese army made over two thousand years ago, yet preserved almost perfectly. In the afternoon spend time at the ancient city wall in Xian, which can be enjoyed through a peaceful stroll or a bike ride. It is the most complete city wall that has survived in China. This evening you will try a dumpling dinner while enjoying the Tang Dynasty Show, a colourful performance of traditional music and dance.

Day 14  Fly to Shanghai (BLD)
Today, you will visit to the Shaanxi Museum which houses over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history.  The next stop, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, will explore China’s unique architecture style then visit the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Shanghai.

Day 15 Shanghai (BLD)
The first attraction will be the Yu Yuan Gardens followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. The centuries old Yu Yuan Gardens are home to beautiful pavilions, corridors, streams, courtyards and flowers. At the Jade Buddha Temple, see impressive temples, both historical and modern, sporting large, intricate sculptures of Buddha. After viewing the Shanghai museum, visit the waterfront attraction of the Bund to admire Shanghai as a modern metropolis. Later, on top of the Shanghai world financial centre, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the whole city.

Day 16 Zhujiajiao (BL)
Today will start with a visit to Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town with a history of over 1,700 years known as the Pearl Stream.  You can expect to see the Ming and Qing Dynasty bridges, two ancient and historic buildings and the Ma Family Garden before heading back to Shanghai for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 17 Fly back to the UK (B)
Transfer to Pudong International Airport for your return flight to London Heathrow or your regional airport.

Tokyo: Rose Garden Shinjuku 4★

The hotel is located next to Nishi Shinjuku Subway Station and is a 10-minute walk from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.  Guestrooms have air conditioning, flat-screen TV, minibar and private bathroom.  There is a selection of dining options, Restaurant Ciao offers Italian dishes and a selection of wines. Kurikichi has private rooms and serves traditional Japanese food.  Garden Restaurant Coffret D’Or offers light meals and refreshments.

Atami: Resorpia Atami 4★

Hotel Resorpia Atami offers rooms with stunning views overlooking the Sagami Bay, with a Japanese-style seating area with a low table and seating cushions on a tatami floor. Rooms also feature a TV and a fridge. The hotelhas a hot spring bath, 3 restaurants and a karaoke bar. Complimentary WiFi is provided in the lobby area. Atami station is a 10 minute drive or 15 minute walk away.

Kyoto: Kyoto Tower Hotel 4★

Located in the Kyoto Tower, this hotel provides air-conditioned rooms, and free WiFi access throughout the property. It features a Sky Lounge and discount for tickets to the Kyoto Tower Observatory. Tower Terrace offers panoramic views of Kyoto, while serving local and Western dishes as well as a breakfast buffet. Tower Kyoto Hotel also houses a Tea Lounge, a Chinese restaurant and a Japanese restaurant. It is a 5-minute drive from both the Higashi Hongan-ji Temple and Sanjusangen-do Temple. Kyoto Station is close by.

Hiroshima: Tokyu REI Hiroshima

Located within a 7-minute taxi ride from the JR Hiroshima Train Station, Hiroshima Tokyu REI Hotel provides free Wi-Fi throughout the property and also wired internet in all guest rooms. Also within a 15-minute walk of Fukuromachi Park, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Beijing: Guangxi Hotel 4★

Conveniently located near the Panjiayuan Antique Market and 5 km from Hongqiao Market and Temple of Heaven. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool.

Xian: Grand Dynasty Culture Hotel 4★

Just a few minutes’ walk from the Ancient City Wall and a 5-minute drive from Bell Tower and Drum Tower.  Rooms are fitted with air-conditioning and a satellite TV. A minibar and attached toilet with bathtub and shower facilities are included. A daily buffet or a la carte breakfast awaits guests every morning at Grand New World’s café. Facilities include swimming Pool and free internet.

Shanghai: Greenland Jiulong Hotel 4★

Located around a mile from the Oriental Pearl Tower and 1.2 miles from Superbrand Shopping Mall.  The hotel offers comfortable guestrooms with modern amenities including flat-screen TV and kettle.  There is a restaurant serving both Chinese and Western cuisine.
