Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route

Day 1 Kawayu Onsen (D)
Take the train from Osaka to Kii-Tanabe (135 mins). Upon arrival meet the staff at the tourist information centre for an orientation briefing. Taking the public bus to Kawayu Onsen. Overnight at Omuraya.
Day 2 Yunomine Onsen (BLD)
Your luggage will be transferred separately. Transfer to Hosshinmon-oji with your guide by bus. Walk across Kumano Kodo Hosshinmon-oji as far as Kumano Hongu Taisha, visiting the heritage centre and Oyunohara. Walk from Hongu to Yunomine Onsen-Daichi-Goe (90mins). Overnight at Kosakaya.
Day 3 Katsuura Onsen (BD)
Your luggage will be transferred separately. Transfer to Hitari by bus and enjoy a boat ride across the Kumano River with your guide. Visit Kumano Hayatama Taisha. Take a Seiganto-ji and Nachi Falls, the highest waterfall in Japan. Take a public bus to Katsuura and stay overnight at Yamane.
Day 4 Osaka (B)
Take the train from Katsuura to Shin-Osaka (135 mins).

*Kumano Kodo is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, an ancient pilgrimage route through deeply forested, remote countryside to the Kumano Shrine since Buddhism has arrived in Japan in the 6th century.

Take the train from Matsumoto to Yabuhara Station (60 mins). Walk from Yabuharajuku to Naraijuku (6km). Overnight stay at a Minshuku (traditional guest house) in Naraijuku. (Detailed walking maps provided).
Day 3 Nakasendo Walking Trail (BD)
Take the train from Narai station to Nakatsugawa Station (90 mins). Walk from Magomejyuku to Tsumagojyuku (9km). Overnight stay at a Mishuku in Tsumagojyuku.
Day 4 Kyoto (B)
Make your own way to Nagiso station to take the train to Nakatsugawa then to Nagoya (90 mins). Take the onward Bullet train to Kyoto (45 mins). On arrival make your own way to your hotel.

*Nakasendo way is the historic highways connects between Kyoto to Tokyo from the Edo Period lying along the beautiful Kiso Valley. It is one of the most important route in Edo period influences both politically and economically. The townhouses along the historic post towns on the route are still well-preserved as it has always been for 300 years. You can go back in time in the Edo period by walking the Nakasendo Way.

Arrive Fukuoka airport and take the Sonic Express train to Beppu.
Day 2 Beppu-Takachiho (BD)
Take a local trainto Oita, followed by a Nichirin train to Nobeoka. Take the onward bus to Takachihom a picturesque town with several shrines and the stunning Takachiho Gorge.
Day 3 Takachiho - Ibusuki (BD)
Take a local bus to Nobeoka, then the Nichirin train to Miyazaki. Take the Kirishima train to Kagoshima Chuo, followed by a local train to Ibusuki. Stay overnight at onsen accommodation in this scenic town.
Day 4 Ibusuki - Hitoyoshi (BD)
Take a Ibusuki no Tamatebako train to Kagoshima Chuo, followed by a Hayato no Kaze train to Yoshimatsu. Finally take a Shimpei train to Hitoyoshi. Perhaps visit some of the local shrines in this area.
Day 5 Hitoyoshi - Aso (BD)
Take the Simpei train to Kumammoto. Make your own way to visit Kumamoto Castle. Take a local train and bus to Akamizu. Stay overnight at onsen accommodation.
Day 6 Aso- Fukuoka (B)
Take a local train to Asofollowed by a local bus to Asozan Nishi. Take the ropeway to Kakou Nishi and see Mount Aso. Take another ropeway to Asozan Nishi and a local bus to Aso. Journey on the Asoboy train to Kumamoto and then take the Kyushu Shinkansn to Hakata.

Day 1 Zenkoji Temple (LD)
In the morning take the Bullet train from Tokyo to Nagano (1 hour 40 mins). Upon arrival you will be met by English Speaking Guide. You will take the local bus to Togakushi (50 mins). Visit the Soba Museum, try “Soba Uchi “ (making Japanese buckwheat noodles) and enjoy Soba lunch. Later visit Togakushi Shrine followed by transfer to Nagano. Local bus to Zenkoji Temple which was founded in the 7th century. Stay at one of 30 temple lodges and experience Monk’s dinner, Shojin-ryori. Shojin-ryori is Buddhist cuisine or Japanese vegetarian dishes.
Day 2 Issano Komichi Biyu No Yado (BD)
Visit Zenkoji Temple with an English speaking assistant. Local train to Obuse (30mins), sightseeing of the small town known as “a little Kyoto”. The assistant will help you to board a local train to Yudanaka. Upon arrival, free shuttle bus to your accommodation, located a 2 min drive from the station. Stay at Issano Komichi Biyu No Yado tonight. This is a ryokan, traditional Japanese accommodation, with Onsen, or Hot spring. Japanese dinner will be served.
Day 3 Snow Monkeys (B)
Visit “Snow Monkey Park (Yaen Koen)” by free transfer service of your accommodation (25mins). Local train to Nagano and bullet train to return to Tokyo (1hour 50mins).

The winter sports hub of Hakuba, an area that played host to 1998 Winter Olympics, is a highland resort, stretching out from the foot of the Hakuba-Sanzan Mountains (Hakuba’s three mountains) in northwestern Nagano. Hakuba Valley is renowned for its snow quality which is dry, deep and consistent powder. It encompasses a huge variety of terrain from tree runs, guided off-piste tours and courses, Terrain Park, banks and double black diamond runs with challenging steep verticals. Hakuba village offers a lively après-ski scene and hot springs.
Day 1 Hakuba (B)
You will leave Tokyo for Hakuba. Make your own way to Shinjuku Station. Take Limited Express Train AZUSA for Hakuba. Upon arrival, take the free shuttle bus to Hakuba Tokyu Hotel.
Days 2-4 Hakuba Ski Resort (B)
Enjoy skiing and Onsen, or Hot spring, at Hakuba Happo-one Winter Resort.
Day 5 Depart (B)
Today you will leave Hakuba. Take the shuttle bus to Hakuba Station for your journey back to Tokyo or onwards to Kyoto.
